چکیده

Background With his classification system, Dr Lenke introduced new parameters in radiographic analysis of idiopathic scoliosis, such as lumbar and thoracic sagittal modifiers [1]. Scoliosis is defined as a 3-dimensional (3D) deformity in the frontal, sagittal and horizontal planes. The spine is considered as a heterogeneous beam and is modeled as a deformable wire, with vertebrae represented by beads rotating about the wire. Each vertebra can rotate around the 3D spinal curve, which is a compound of plane regions connected by zones of transition. The 3D spinal curve is uniquely flexed along the plane regions. Biplanar radiographic examination with successive exposures (frontal and sagittal in 30cm × 90cm format), coupled with photogrammetric reconstructions, may be used to recreate the 3D spinal curve.

Three-dimensional classification of thoracic scoliotic curves.

STUDY DESIGN Three-dimensional (3D) characterization of the thoracic scoliotic spine (cross-sectional study). OBJECTIVES To investigate the presence of subgroups within Lenke type-1 curves by evaluating the thoracic segment indices extracted from 3D reconstructions of the spine, and to propose a new clinically relevant means (the daVinci representation) to report 3D spinal deformities. SUMM...

Spontaneous Thoracic Curve Correction After Selective Posterior Fusion of Thoracolumbar/Lumbar Curves in Lenke 5C Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Selective fusion of the thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L) curve is an effective method for the treatment of Lenke type 5C curves. Several studies have demonstrated that spontaneous correction of the thoracic curve does indeed occur. However, how this correction occurs after isolated posterior segmental instrumentation of the structural lumbar curve has not been well described. The aim of this study w...

Anterior versus posterior approach in Lenke 5C adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a meta-analysis of fusion segments and radiological outcomes

BACKGROUND Radiological outcomes between anterior and posterior approach in Lenke 5C curves were still controversial. Meta-analysis on published articles to compare fusion segments and radiological outcomes between the two surgical approaches was performed. METHODS Electronic database was conducted for searching studies concerning the anterior versus posterior approach in Lenke 5C curves. Aft...

Higher Flexibility and Better Immediate Spontaneous Correction May Not Gain Better Results for Nonstructural Thoracic Curve in Lenke 5C AIS Patients

STUDY DESIGN Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE To study the behavior of the unfused thoracic curve in Lenke type 5C during the follow-up and to identify risk factors for its correction loss. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Few studies have focused on the spontaneous behaviors of the unfused thoracic curve after selective thoracolumbar or lumbar fusion during the follow-up and the risk factors for s...
